Nebraska 7-Day Forecast: Highs Climb From 70°F to Upper 80s by Memorial Day

What changed

The National Weather Service forecast for central Nebraska shows temperatures ramping up day by day:

| Period | Temperature | |---|---| | Thursday Night (overnight) | Low 53°F | | Friday | High 70°F | | Friday Night | Low 49°F | | Saturday | High 74°F | | Saturday Night | Low 50°F | | Sunday | High 82°F | | Sunday Night | Low 58°F | | Memorial Day (Monday) | High 87°F |

From Friday to Monday, daytime highs jump 17 degrees — 70°F up to 87°F. Overnight lows follow the same pattern, rising from 49°F Friday night to 58°F Sunday night.

Why it matters

For corn that's already in the ground, warmer nights mean faster growing degree day (GDD) accumulation. Lows in the upper 40s early in the period are on the cool side for rapid emergence, but by Sunday night those lows push into the upper 50s, which is more favorable. The 82°F to 87°F daytime highs over the weekend and Monday could move emerged corn along quickly.

For soybeans, soil temperatures at this point in May are typically warm enough for germination, and this forecast keeps things moving in the right direction. No frost risk shows up in this window — the coldest overnight reading is 49°F Friday night.

What to watch next

  • Mid-week updates: Forecasts beyond 4–5 days can shift. Check NWS updates early next week for any changes to the Monday outlook.
  • Rainfall: This temperature data doesn't include precipitation. Moisture conditions could affect how useful the heat is — worth watching local forecasts for rain chances alongside these temps.
  • GDD tracking: With highs in the 80s and lows in the 50s, daily GDD totals (base 50) could be solid. Local extension offices and ag weather tools can help you track accumulation against crop stage.

Source notes

All temperature data comes from the U.S. National Weather Service API (Omaha/Valley forecast office, gridpoint OAX 56,40). This is a point forecast for central Nebraska and may not match conditions across the entire state. Forecasts are subject to change.
